“He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster.” Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil
When you fight hate with hate, it typically ends up being a no-win situation but that did not stop Missouri Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal from very publicly, on Facebook state that she hoped for Trump’s assassination.
Maria has since apologized for her bitter remarks with regards to Trump. At some point everyone should realize that Trump, the most disliked man in the world can and does tend to bring out the ugly in people. He’s a button pusher, he antagonizes, he lies, he says things publicly that are outrageous and insulting.
He relishes in knowing that his ill typed and spoken words do hurt others.
Words do in fact carry power, they can heal a nation or destroy it.
Maria Chappelle-Nadal, has since faced calls by Missouri’s top Democrats and Republicans demanding that she resign from the legislature for posting “I Hope Trump is assassinated!” on her personal Facebook, which is not open to the public, on Thursday.
While she quickly deleted the comment she posted, the U.S. Secret Service’s St. Louis field office is still investigating because she is not exempt from not being able to outright encourage the assassination of the President of the United States.
Maria Chappelle-Nadal has said that she isn’t resigning over the Facebook post however. And why should she? Trump has said and tweeted far worse.
Trump has continued to divide our nation, he has no power to heal it, save it or fix it because he himself is a hateful, spiteful, little obtuse, creature who enjoys using hate against others.
Hate is one of the most overused and powerful moves people make.
We can always make the choice to allow for hate to breed hate or, we can choose to fight hate in more intelligent ways.
Ways that Trump simply cannot grasp because intelligence would be utilized rather than hatred.
“Hatred is corrosive of a person’s wisdom and conscience; the mentality of enmity can poison a nation’s spirit, instigate brutal life and death struggles, destroy a society’s tolerance and humanity, and block a nation’s progress to freedom and democracy.” Liu Xiaobo
