Leavenworth, Kansas Judge Michael Gibbens Under Fire
Blames 13, 14-Year Olds for Acts of Sexual Predator

If you have not been outraged today, get ready for this.
Kansas Judge Michael Gibbens tossed major blame towards two young girls who were the victims in a case against a man accused of being a sexual predator. Who by the way was specifically seeking out and grooming young girls.
“I do find that the victims in this case, in particular, were more an aggressor than a participant in the criminal conduct.”
Oh and to make matters worse, Judge Gibbens ignored prosecutors when sentencing Raymond Soden and gave him nearly six years in prison. Prosecutors said Raymond Soden had a prior conviction for battery, sexual battery and had asked that he be sentenced to more than 13 years in prison.
The good Judge explained that his reasoning for the more lenient sentence was that the two girls went to Raymond Soden’s house voluntarily and took money from him for sexual favors.
“They were certainly selling things monetarily which is against the law for even an adult to sell.”
I won’t get into the history of my own childhood here but this Judge is no better than the sexual predator in this case. Blaming the victims is never okay, ever. At 13 and 14, the girls would have been easily groomed to do things that they should never, ever have to do for any adult man. Furthermore, I hope this pos sorry excuse of a Judge realizes that someday, these girls are going to know what he said, this form of abuse never goes away, so all of the pain and trauma and blame that they felt while this happened, it will all come back when they find out exactly what this Judge said and it will hurt them, deeply again.
Everyone give the Judge a round of applause for ensuring the girls feel this trauma again at its deepest level someday.
Child Advocate Michelle Herman said; “Sexual assault is never the victim’s fault. It doesn’t matter what the girls did or didn’t do, he is still the adult and nobody deserves to be taken advantage of sexually.”
Leavenworth County government lists a phone number for Judge Gibbens on its website and it should not surprise you that he is not returning calls for a comment about this case.
Seems like he is taking the road traveled well by cowards.
