What is Going In With Flights

Man Tries to Open Emergency Exit & Stabbing Flight Attendant

What makes this story so remarkably sad is that this is the second time in two weeks we are seeing such a violent situation on an airline.

33-year-old Francisco Severo Torres, from Massachusetts was arrested at Boston Logan International Airport after the whole fiasco, which took place during a United Airlines Flight from LA to Boston.

Here are the details; The United Airlines flight crew reports that they saw an alarm that a door in the plane had been disarmed, After an inspection of the door, a flight attendant saw that the door’s locking handle had been pushed out of the fully locked position and an emergency slide arming lever had been disarmed.

A flight attendant who saw Fransisco near the door went to talk to him and inquire about the door. The flight attendant was concerned so they notified the captain that they believed Fransisco posed a threat to the aircraft and that the captain needed to land the aircraft as soon as possible.

Naturally this is about the time all hell breaks loose, Fransisco got out of his seat, was seen mouthing something, then began to thrust his hand or arm, towards one of the flight attendants in a stabbing motion with a broken metal spoon, hitting the flight attendant on the neck area three times.

At any rate this is where other passengers shot into action and took Fransisco down.

Fransisco told law enforcement that he tried to open the emergency door and “had gotten the idea” to jump out of the plane and, that he broke a spoon in half in the bathroom on the airplane to use as a weapon, in other words he made a prison shank. Fransisco also told investigators that he was simply trying to defend himself and tried to stab the flight attendant because he believed they were trying to kill him.

I swear people do not even wait for a lawyer to suggest the insanity defense anymore, they just jump straight to it.

Fransisco was charged with one charge of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon.

United Airlines has a zero tolerance policy for this sort of thing and have rightfully so banned Fransisco for life from flying on United Airlines.

Dangerous and unruly passengers continue to be an issue on flights around the country. On February 24th An American Airlines flight was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport Wednesday due to a disruptive passenger, although it’s unclear still what really happened during that flight as the charges against the passenger were subsequently dropped.

Violent airline incidents skyrocketed in 2021, according to the FAA. Statistics show there were nearly 5,981 reported cases of unruly passengers. Now in 2022 the number went down to 2,359 it was still well above pre-pandemic levels. This year isn’t starting so great given how many flights are being canceled on a daily basis to the major issues over at Southwest.

Some are saying that due to the pandemic people no longer know how to behave in public, that I can believe if you look at how people drive these days, the rude and often outrageous behaviour in stores across the nation.

The back to back airline incidents are leaving some, unnerved and wondering if it is safe to fly.

Last week a Pennsylvania man was arrested after allegedly trying to bring explosives in his suitcase on a flight. Every safety protocol worked that was in place in that case and the explosives never made it near the plane, but were they meant for the plane or were they meant to go off in the airport? Was it a test to see what he could get away with knowing that it would be widely broadcast thus giving any would be bomber the ability to skirt around the safety protocols. Remember a lot of these guys try to outdo each other or go bigger and more extravagant.

So you do have to wonder, are these airplane violent outbursts getting under control or will they become worse?
